Nazarii Stets: The Study of White

Inspired by Salvatore Sciarrino’s reflections on silence and sound, Exploration of White invites the audience to listen beyond what is immediately audible. Sciarrino writes that the many shades of white exist because shadows are infinite — and that silence sharpens our perception of sound. To explore sound, one must first hear silence.

This concert features Ukrainian double bassist Nazariy Stets, a leading advocate of contemporary music and solo double bass performance in Ukraine.

The programme consists of works by Stefano Scodanibbio, the first live Ukrainian performance of Elliott Carter’s Figment III, alongside Pizz-song by Finnish composer Teppo Hauta-aho, Glas-1 by Ukrainian composer Leonid Hrabovsky, and Sciarrino's Esplorazione del bianco, dedicated to Scodanibbio.
