In June 2018, Kyiv Contemporary Music Days (KCMD), in collaboration with the Portuguese festival DME – Dias de Música Electroacústica, organized an international festival and educational programme in Lisbon (Portugal) and Kyiv (Ukraine), combining concerts, composer masterclasses, workshops, and innovative digital formats.
A central part of the project was the 4th International Masterclasses for Composers, held in Lisbon and led by Hans Tutschku (Germany) and Jaime Reis (Portugal), with additional workshops by João Pedro Oliveira, Carlos Caires, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, and António Sousa Dias. Selected composers worked closely with performers and created new solo works, premiered at the final concert of the masterclasses.
The concert programme featured international performers and ensembles, including Nina Janßen-Deinzer, Yuri Matsuzaki, Junya Makino, Milosz Drogowski, the Danapris String Quartet, Antonii Baryshevskyi, and a special programme dedicated to electroacoustic music by Hans Tutschku.
A key component of the festival was a series of live 360° VR streams connecting Lisbon and Kyiv, allowing Ukrainian audiences to experience concerts in real time across 4,000 km.
The festival presented works by 20th- and 21st-century composers such as Valentyn Sylvestrov, Vitaliy Hodzyatsky, Helmut Lachenmann, Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Salvatore Sciarrino, Toshio Hosokawa, and others.
