The Study of White Chamber Music Concert Series
Kyiv, December 2021
Curator

The Study of White is a cycle of three concerts dedicated to expanding the expressive boundaries of string instruments — their physical possibilities, their interaction with space, and their relationship with the listener.

Performed by Andrii Pavlov, Ihor Zavhorodnii, Nazarii Stets, and Orest Smovzh, the series brings together works by key figures of the 20th and 21st centuries, alongside newly written musical fragments by composers and performers from Ukraine and abroad. The programme includes music by Luciano Berio, John Cage, György Kurtág, Iannis Xenakis, Morton Feldman, Erkki-Sven Tüür, as well as contemporary composers from Finland, the United States, Japan, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Each concert explores a distinct constellation:

Across the series, sound is treated as a spatial, physical, and perceptual phenomenon.

All concerts took place at The Naked Room, a contemporary art gallery in Kyiv. Each event was accompanied by preparatory podcasts and informal post-concert conversations with the musicians, inviting the audience into a deeper, shared listening experience.
