As part of the bilateral Austria–Ukraine Year of Culture 2019, the pianist Antonii Baryshevskyi, winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition 2014, makes his debut at the Arnold Schönberg Center. The concert programme offers insights into the kaleidoscopic world of the Ukrainian avant-garde with works performed for the first time in Austria. Schumann’s “Carnaval” and Schönberg’s Suite op. 25 – the composer’s first twelve-tone work – as European avant-garde works from the 19th and 20th centuries, serve as a counterpoint in this stimulating evening recital.
Arnold Schönberg - Suite für Klavier op. 25; Klavierstück op. 11/1
Vitaliy Hodziatsky - Flatness Disruptions
Svyatoslav Lunyov - Three Etudes; Nocturnalies
Valentyn Sylvestrov - Kitschmusik
Robert Schumann - Carnaval op. 9
